  • The ‘war for talent’ and skills gap remain top challenges for the E&S sector. This year, the sector reported its lowest global net employee growth in three years. Small and mid-sized organisations are leading the charge, hiring up to three times faster than larger companies.

  • Staff turnover improved in 2023, however, the proportion of respondents expecting layoffs quadrupled, projecting an average headcount reduction of 5.5%.

  • Newly pursued projects in 2023 mostly came from renewables and energy transmission client verticals, as well as financial and regulated services providers.

  • Profit margin expectations remain cautious, falling short of projected margins.

  • Respondents are less bullish about business prospects, forecasting 5-year CAGR growth of 6.6% in the domestic market and 7.3% globally.

  • While matching the global average long-term growth prospects, the UK is expected to lag behind emerging markets in Latin America and the Middle East & Africa.
